Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how SimpleWOL ("Service", "we") handles information from users of the SimpleWOL Alexa Skill and the web portal available at www.simplewol.click. By using the Service, you agree to the practices described in this document.

1. Data Controller

The Service is independently operated, on a non-profit basis, as an open-source project. Questions or requests regarding personal data may be sent to contact@simplewol.click.

2. Data We Collect

We collect only the minimum data required for the Service to function:

• Amazon user identifier (user ID): received during the Account Linking process with Amazon. We do not receive your name, email address, payment information, or any other Amazon profile data beyond the anonymous unique identifier.
• Email address: optionally provided by the user in the web portal to help identify their own account. It is not required to use the Skill.
• Device MAC addresses: physical network addresses of computers registered by the user for Wake-on-LAN packet delivery.
• Authentication tokens: access tokens and refresh tokens generated internally to authenticate the user's requests to the Service API.
• Portal session cookie: used exclusively to maintain authentication state in the web portal during the session.

We do not collect voice recordings, Alexa command history, location data, biometric data, payment information, or any other information beyond what is listed above.

3. Voice Data

SimpleWOL is an Alexa Smart Home Skill. All natural language processing is performed entirely by Amazon; SimpleWOL only receives the structured intent (e.g., "turn on device X") and never has access to the user's voice recordings.

4. Purpose and Legal Basis

Data is processed on the basis of legitimate interest and contractual necessity, for the following purposes:

• Sending the Wake-on-LAN packet to the correct device when requested.
• Authenticating the user in the Alexa Skill and web portal.
• Allowing the user to register, list, and remove devices.

Data is not used for advertising, profiling, sale, or any purpose beyond those listed above.

5. Data Sharing

Data is not sold, transferred, or shared with third parties for commercial purposes. The Service uses Amazon Web Services (AWS) infrastructure exclusively as a cloud computing provider (region us-east-1, Virginia, USA), subject to AWS privacy and compliance policies.

6. Storage and Security

Data is stored on Amazon Web Services (AWS) infrastructure, region us-east-1 (Virginia, USA).

All communication occurs exclusively via HTTPS with TLS. Authentication tokens are generated with cryptographically secure entropy. MAC addresses are local network data and do not by themselves allow remote access to registered devices.

7. Data Retention

• Access tokens: expire automatically after a limited period, as required for the Skill to function.
• Refresh tokens: retained while the Skill remains linked to the user's Amazon account.
• Devices and identifiers: retained while the user has an active account on the Service. They can be removed at any time via the web portal.
• Session cookie: expires at the end of the session or after a period of inactivity.

8. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access: inquire which personal data is stored.
• Correction: update incorrect information.
• Deletion: request removal of all data associated with your account.
• Portability: receive your data in a structured format.
• Revocation: unlink the Skill via the Alexa app (Skills → SimpleWOL → Disable), immediately revoking the Skill's access to your account.

9. Cookies

The web portal uses a single session cookie with the HttpOnly and Secure attributes, used exclusively for authentication. No tracking, advertising, or behavioral analytics cookies are used.

10. Children

SimpleWOL is not directed at children under 13 years of age and does not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child's data has been collected, please contact us immediately for deletion.

11. Changes to This Policy

This policy may be updated periodically. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the current version. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised version.
