Terms of Use

By enabling the SimpleWOL Alexa Skill or using the web portal at www.simplewol.click ("Service"), you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. The Service

SimpleWOL is a non-profit service that allows users to remotely power on computers via Wake-on-LAN through Amazon Alexa voice commands. It runs primarily within the AWS free tier; any additional costs are low and covered by a limited budget provisioned to keep the Service available. Features sustained by the free tier will remain free as long as the Service is active and AWS maintains that program. To preserve the health of the solution, the following measures may be applied: removal of inactive users, restrictions on new registrations, and daily invocation limits.

2. Requirements

To use the Service you need:

A valid Amazon account.
An Amazon Echo device on the same local network as the computer you want to wake up.
Wake-on-LAN (WoL) enabled in the BIOS and network adapter settings of the target computer.
Legal capacity to enter into agreements (be at least 13 years old or have parental/guardian consent).

3. Account and Linking

The Service uses Login with Amazon as its sole authentication method. You are responsible for keeping your Amazon account secure. SimpleWOL does not store passwords and has no access to your Amazon credentials.

Disabling the Skill in the Alexa app (Skills → SimpleWOL → Disable) immediately revokes the Service's access to your Amazon account. Your data may be retained for an additional period as described in the Privacy Policy.

4. Acceptable Use

You agree to use the Service only for lawful, personal purposes. The following are expressly prohibited:

Using the Service for commercial purposes without prior written authorization.
Sharing access credentials or authentication tokens with third parties.
Attempting to bypass authentication mechanisms or rate limiting enforced by the Service.
Reverse engineering, modifying, or redistributing any part of the Service.
Using the Service in ways that could harm others or overload the infrastructure.

5. Registered Devices

You are solely responsible for the devices you register with the Service. SimpleWOL does not verify ownership of the MAC addresses you provide. Register only devices that you own or have explicit authorization to control.

6. Availability

The Service is provided as-is, with no guarantee of continuous availability (SLA), response time, or error-free operation. The platform may be interrupted, modified, or discontinued at any time, with or without prior notice.

7. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, SimpleWOL and its contributors shall not be liable for:

Direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from the use of or inability to use the Service.
Failures to deliver the Wake-on-LAN packet caused by network configuration, BIOS settings, Echo firmware, or AWS infrastructure unavailability.
Unauthorized access resulting from a compromise of the user's Amazon account.

8. Intellectual Property

The name SimpleWOL, its logo, and the original text of this interface are the property of the project author. All rights reserved. Amazon and Alexa are trademarks of Amazon.com, Inc., referenced here only to describe the Service's compatibility.

9. Privacy

The handling of personal data is described in the Privacy Policy, which forms an integral part of these Terms of Use.

10. Changes to These Terms

These Terms may be updated at any time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the current version. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised version.

11. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Brazil. For users located in other jurisdictions, applicable local consumer protection laws may also apply. Any disputes shall be resolved in good faith; formal legal action, if necessary, shall be subject to the jurisdiction chosen by the applicable local law.
